I wanted to make a quick Icelandic grammer guide with a few know hows that really helped jumpstart my comprehension and understanding of the Icelandic language

Icelandic is a tough language to learn! But if you know how to dissect Icelandic, its not that hard! The language is absolutely beautiful to listen to, and it can be fun to speak!

Here are a few tips when trying to pronounce Icelandic words:

-Symbols-

þ or þ is pronounced with a "th" sound. þorun is pronounced "Thorun" (Thor-oon)

Æ or æ is pronounced "aye". Æsir is pronounced (Aye-seer)

Ð or ð is pronounced "the", it is not a D like commonly thought. Breað is pronounced

"Brathe (Bray-th)

LL or ll is pronounced with a "kh" sound. Gullfoss is "Gukfoss" (Gukh-Fuss)

J or j is pronouced like an English "Y". Joel is pronounced "Yoel (Yo-el)

-Dissect the Words-

Icelandic looks very jarring at 1st glance, the words are so long! The Icelandic language likes to group several words into one word, so if you break down the words it makes the word alot easier to understand, read, and pronounce.

Reykjavik (Rey-key-a-veek)

Rekur = Smoke

Vik = Cove

Smoke Cove

Morgonmatter (More-gon-ma-ter)

Morgon = Morning

Matter = Plural of Food

Morning food

Eyjafjallajökull (Aye-ya-fee-awk-a-yo-kuk)

Eyja = Island

Fjall = Mountain

Jökull = Glacier

Island Mountain Glacier

See, Icelandic is not so bad when you break it down!
